Purchasing Arrangements and Local suppliers

Our Company ethos has always been to use local suppliers wherever possible. Our unique promise that we do not retain any discounts means that the use of local suppliers enhances our business. The particular suppliers required for your contract would be discussed and agreed with you.

We feel strongly that it is in the interest of everyone to support the local economy. Palmer & Howells are working towards the Soil Association "Food for Life" accreditation with some schools and colleges. This puts the emphasis on reducing "food miles" and the use of some organic products. Removing these "food miles" through local sourcing retains that wealth in the local economy.

As a small company ourselves, we recognise that healthy cash flow is vital to small suppliers, therefore we guarantee that suppliers are paid between 4 & 8 weeks from when the goods were supplied. We pride ourselves on having a good relationship with all our suppliers, treating them as we would wish to be treated ourselves.

The quality of food used in our catering operations has to be the best. Suppliers are selected on their ability to meet very strict quality criteria as well as on price, food safety and service.

We control our suppliers in the following areas:

Quality audits and food safety checks
Delivery methods, times and frequency
Cleanliness of staff and vehicles
Supplier storage methods and temperature control
Stock rotation, pack size and price

We forge a close relationship with our suppliers and expect them to provide us with high quality produce and a reliable service, realistic and competitive prices, high standards of hygiene and no genetically modified foodstuffs. In return we promise to pay promptly each month and not to enter into complex discount arrangements.

The benefits to you of our arrangements are that you can be assured that you are receiving the best available quality locally produced goods, at a price at the "kitchen door" that is not inflated to boost company profits.
